Flavor and Texture: The Golden Oyster (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) is one of our seasonal mushrooms that we grow here. This mushroom when cooked, has a well balanced flavor that pulls through with nutty undertones similar to a cashew. They have a slightly chewy texture with a little bit of crispiness. The stem can be a little bitter but it should tone down when cooked. They will hold their color as well when cooked to make any dish beautiful and bright. We enjoy this mushroom in stir-fries, Raman dishes, and as a stand-alone side to any savory meal.
Benefits: Golden Oysters contain most the same benefits as the other oysters including Fiber, Calcium, Magnesium, and Biotin. It also contains amino acids which can help fight free radical damage.
We generally grow this mushroom in summertime as it likes warmer temperatures.
Due to the nature of our products, processing time frames can vary. Please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department at 864-978-5466 if you have any questions prior to ordering.
We recommend storing your mushrooms in the packaging they come in or transferring them to a paper bag. We do NOT recommend placing them in the crisper as this will speed up the aging process. Mushrooms need air flow, and our packaging provides that to help the shelf life and the freshness of the mushrooms. If your mushrooms dry out a little in the packaging, we like to suggest using them in soups or broths to get full use out of them.
